Amazon switches restaurant delivery partner

On Thursday, 5 November 2026, Amazon announced that it would no longer use Grubhub+ for its Prime members in the United States. Instead, the e‑commerce giant has made Uber Eats the official restaurant delivery partner for Prime subscribers. The new arrangement allows Prime members to order food directly from Amazon.com or the Amazon Shopping app, without needing to create an Uber account, and it waives delivery fees on orders of $25 or more. The change takes effect immediately. A spokesperson for Amazon said the company continually reviews its third‑party offers and saw an opportunity to improve the delivery experience for Prime members. Grubhub confirmed that the partnership is ending, and Prime members who had already activated Grubhub+ will retain that membership until 31 December 2027.

Background

Amazon first struck a deal with Grubhub in 2022, offering Prime members a free Grubhub+ subscription. In 2024 the offer was made permanent, and Amazon also increased its equity stake in Grubhub to as much as 18% through a performance‑based agreement that could have granted additional warrants. That agreement was set to renew annually, but Amazon chose to cash out its warrants in December 2024 after Just Eat Takeaway announced plans to sell Grubhub to Wonder. The new partnership with Uber Eats builds on an existing relationship between the two companies. Amazon and Uber have agreements covering cloud computing, the integration of Uber Eats into Amazon’s Alexa+ assistant, and the use of Uber’s Zoox robotaxis. The move also gives Amazon a new incentive to justify the annual Prime fee.

Why it matters

Prime members will now benefit from free delivery on orders of $25 or more, a feature that was previously available only through Grubhub+. Amazon and Uber are offering a $20 discount on the first two orders that meet the $25 threshold during the first two weeks of the partnership. The change could save Prime users up to $175 a year, depending on how often they use restaurant delivery. The switch removes the need for Prime members to create a separate Uber account, potentially simplifying the ordering process. It also ends a long‑standing commercial relationship between Amazon and Grubhub that began in 2022 and included a free subscription to Grubhub+ for Prime members.

What happens next

Amazon and Uber have not announced any further changes beyond the initial discount period. Prime members who had already activated Grubhub+ will continue to enjoy that membership until the end of 2027. No additional dates or pending decisions were mentioned in the sources.
