Claude adds personal finance to its AI toolkit

On 5 November 2026 Anthropic announced that its Claude chatbot now includes a Personal Finance feature. In the US, subscribers to the Pro, Max, and Ultra tiers can now integrate their banking and credit card details via the Plaid system using this new feature. After establishing this connection, individuals may query the AI about their spending habits, for instance, by asking where their funds were allocated during the current month. or “Is that more than usual?” and the chatbot will generate a spending summary that groups transactions by category – rent, utilities, food, shopping and more.

The feature is strictly read‑only. Anthropic states that Claude cannot move, manage or invest users’ money, and it does not provide any credit cards, loans or savings accounts of its own. The chatbot can analyse up to two years of transaction history and can highlight potential issues such as duplicate charges, unexpected fees or steadily rising bills.

Background

Claude has been expanding into specialised verticals throughout 2026. Earlier in the year the company launched Claude for Legal and Claude for Financial Services. The Personal Finance tool follows a similar move by OpenAI, which introduced a personal‑finance capability for ChatGPT in May that also lets users connect accounts and ask about spending patterns and long‑term planning.

Anthropic’s blog notes that the new tool is designed to act as a financial companion rather than a generic adviser. It can explain financial terms – for example, the annual percentage rate (APR) – and provide calculations showing how much interest a user has paid over the past year.

Why it matters

The introduction of a finance‑focused chatbot could change how people monitor their budgets. By pulling data from multiple accounts, Claude can give a consolidated view that would otherwise require separate statements or budgeting apps. The read‑only nature of the connection means that users’ passwords are not exposed, and the data is not used to train the model, according to Anthropic.

Users on the Pro, Max and Ultra plans will be the first to access the beta rollout. The feature is still limited to the United States and to the specified subscription tiers, so it will not be available to free or international users at launch.

What happens next

Anthropic has not announced a public release date beyond the current beta. The company is still testing the tool with its higher‑tier customers, and further updates or broader availability may follow once the initial rollout is stabilised. No additional regulatory approvals or changes to the Plaid partnership have been announced.

The move places Claude in direct competition with OpenAI’s ChatGPT personal‑finance functionality, and it may influence how users choose between the two platforms for budgeting and financial insight.
