Campaign launch in Osogbo

On Saturday, political figures gathered in Osogbo, Osun State, to launch a door‑to‑door mobilisation effort for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re‑election campaign. The event, organised under the PBAT Door‑to‑Door Movement, featured the unveiling of thirty campaign vehicles donated by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo. Governor Ademola Adeleke, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru and other party leaders attended the inauguration at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park.

Representatives of the donors and political leaders used the occasion to call on Osun residents to give Tinubu a decisive majority of the votes cast in the state. Tompolo, speaking through his representative Kestin Pondi, urged voters to support the President, describing him as a fellow Yoruba man and crediting his economic reforms for improved state allocations, timely salary payments and reduced fuel queues.

Background

The mobilisation effort is part of a broader strategy to secure a large share of the 2,339,233 registered voters in Osun, of which 1,906,390 have collected Permanent Voter Cards. Organisers set a target of at least 1.5 million votes for Tinubu, with some statements suggesting the ambition could rise to two million. The PBAT Door‑to‑Door Movement, convened by Tompolo, aims to deploy 10,000 grassroots canvassers across the state, a figure announced alongside the vehicle donation.

Governor Adeleke, represented by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, highlighted a cross‑party coalition that includes members of the Accord Party, Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress. The event also saw participation from Osun APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal, Accord Party Chairman Victor Akande, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Adewale Egbedun and Marine Operations Director Lekan Badmus.

Senator Basiru listed achievements of the Tinubu administration—such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, infrastructure projects, increased allocations to state and local governments, and broader economic improvements—as reasons for voter support. Former Osun governor Adegboyega Oyetola, represented by 2026 APC governorship candidate Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, praised the growing organisational strength behind the re‑election drive.

Why it matters

Osun is a key battleground in the South‑West, and securing a high percentage of its votes could significantly influence the national outcome. The donation of thirty vehicles and the mobilisation of 10,000 canvassers represent a substantial logistical boost for Tinubu’s campaign, potentially enhancing voter outreach and persuasion efforts. The cross‑party nature of the rally underscores a concerted effort to present a united front, which may sway undecided voters and reinforce Tinubu’s appeal among Yoruba constituents.

The emphasis on Tinubu’s economic reforms and the claim of stable fuel supplies aim to counter criticisms of his first term and to persuade voters that his continued leadership will sustain economic progress. The involvement of influential regional figures such as Tompolo, a prominent Niger Delta businessman, adds financial and symbolic weight to the campaign.

What happens next

Organisers plan to deploy the 10,000 canvassers across Osun’s local government areas in the weeks leading up to the 2027 presidential election. The donated vehicles are expected to be used for transporting campaign materials and volunteers during the door‑to‑door outreach. Further statements from the PBAT movement and participating political leaders are anticipated as the election draws nearer, with the aim of confirming whether the targeted vote share is achieved.
