President Bola Tinubu announced on 14 October 2026 that he would not accompany the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council to every rally ahead of the 2027 general election. The statement was made during the inauguration of the council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where Tinubu urged party officials to take the party’s agenda to voters across the country.

In his remarks, Tinubu highlighted the need to focus on governance and the country’s financial commitments. He noted that the demands of a campaign tour could distract from running the nation and that Nigeria required his attention at the moment. The president also referred to obligations to foreign creditors, saying that the American creditors cannot wait and that the administration must meet its bills.

While acknowledging the importance of electioneering, Tinubu stressed that attracting investors was a priority for Nigeria’s future. He said the government needed to create an environment where investors would stay and invest for the long term, benefiting future generations.

Tinubu assured that he would still find opportunities to speak directly with Nigerians, even as the campaign council led activities at state and local levels. He urged the council to communicate the administration’s vision, achievements and agenda to every part of the country, from wards to local governments.

The president’s decision was framed as a renewed commitment to Nigerians and a reminder that the responsibilities of the ruling party do not pause during a campaign. By delegating the mobilisation work to the council, Tinubu aimed to balance the demands of a presidential campaign with the ongoing needs of governance and economic development.
