On Sunday, the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo in Ogun State announced its support for President Bola Tinubu and Senator Solomon Adeola, known as Yayi, in the upcoming 2027 presidential and governorship elections. The socio‑cultural group, which represents Igbo interests in the state, also pledged to back all All Progressives Congress candidates in Ogun.
During the declaration, the organisation conferred the chieftaincy title Dike Eji Eje Mba on Senator Adeola. The title recognises his role in advancing infrastructure projects across the state, including road construction and market development.
Eze Stephen Okorie, the president of the Ogun chapter, led a five‑man delegation to meet Adeola in Abeokuta. The visit was described as a courtesy gesture to inform the senator of the honour and to discuss the forthcoming installation ceremony.
Chief Kayode Odunaro, Adeola’s special adviser on media, released a statement on Monday confirming the delegation’s purpose. Okorie said the installation, scheduled for the end of October, will feature a formal endorsement of Adeola and a declaration of support for all APC candidates in Ogun.
The group cited Adeola’s recent developmental strides as the main reason for its backing. In the last three years, the senator has overseen significant improvements in market infrastructure and road networks, which have boosted trade and commerce in the region.
Okorie, a long‑time resident of Owode‑Yewa in Yewa South Local Government Area, highlighted his 36‑year connection to Ogun State. He noted that the Igbo community has no hesitation in supporting Adeola for governor and Tinubu for president, given their contributions to the state’s growth.
The endorsement comes ahead of the 2027 elections, with the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo positioning itself as a key stakeholder in Ogun’s political landscape.
