FCT minister declares support for Tinubu On 21 October 2026, Nyesom Wike, the minister responsible for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), announced that both the FCT and Rivers State would deliver votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election. The statement was made during a meeting with political stakeholders in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC). Wike said he had been tasked with coordinating support for Tinubu in the two jurisdictions and expressed confidence that residents would vote for the president.
Alliance between APC and PDP Wike’s declaration came as leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, together with traditional institutions, pledged their backing for Tinubu’s re‑election. Speakers from both parties credited Wike’s leadership with fostering cooperation and promoting infrastructure development across the territory.
Workers and artisans endorse Tinubu In a separate announcement, the FCT coordinator of the labour‑oriented movement Working People United (WoPU), Comrade Musa Fadawa, said that civil servants, artisans and other workers in the six area councils of the FCT had endorsed Tinubu. The group, which includes teachers, nurses, drivers, traders, students and private‑sector workers, had consulted members across the territory and other states before deciding to back the president.
Reasons for the endorsement Fadawa explained that the endorsement was based on Tinubu’s commitment to workers’ welfare, his engagement with organised labour and the administration’s economic and infrastructural reforms. He cited the approval of wage awards, the new national minimum wage and the president’s dialogue with the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress as evidence of a government that recognises workers’ challenges.
Infrastructure achievements Both Wike and Fadawa highlighted the Tinubu administration’s record in infrastructure. Projects mentioned include road construction and rehabilitation across the six area councils, renewal of Abuja’s city centre, installation of streetlights, bridge construction, school renovations and water projects. These initiatives are said to have created jobs and improved living conditions for residents.
Grassroots mobilisation WoPU announced a partnership with the City Boy Movement’s FCT chapter to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections. The partnership aims to bring the re‑election campaign to markets, motor parks, workplaces, wards and satellite towns throughout the territory.
Political implications The combined support from the FCT minister, APC and PDP leaders, and a broad base of workers and artisans suggests a consolidated front for Tinubu’s bid for a second term. The alliance between the ruling party and the opposition in the capital, together with the backing of civil society groups, could influence voter sentiment in the FCT and surrounding areas.
Conclusion The announcements from Wike and WoPU indicate a coordinated effort to secure votes for President Tinubu in the forthcoming 2027 general election. The focus on infrastructure, worker welfare and political inclusion underpins the support expressed by both political leaders and labour groups in the Federal Capital Territory.
