Nigerian Firms Promote EU Startup Entry

In Lagos, Nigerian investment firms announced a partnership aimed at helping local entrepreneurs establish businesses in Europe. The collaboration focuses on Spain and France, where government bodies such as ENISA and the Ministry of Economy support innovative start‑ups.

The initiative was presented by Johnson Anorh, CEO of O&J Capital, who highlighted the need for Nigerian professionals to consider legal routes to the European market. According to him, international expansion frequently encounters obstacles, especially those involving confidence, security assurances, and the complexity of administrative terminology. Companies such as O&J Capital, iworld, and Mirsatori collaborate with Nigerian customers to close these divides by linking verified business founders with extensive legal and corporate assistance frameworks.

Maksin Mayer Nikitin, who leads the Migration Department at Mirsatori, stated that the alliance aims to link Nigerian business founders with European markets via startup-focused initiatives, customized commercial plans, and expert immigration guidance. The initiative will assist business owners in understanding the statutory and regulatory obligations needed to set up operations in Spain and France, respectively.

Background

The EU has long offered structured pathways for entrepreneurs seeking to set up businesses in member states. In Spain, the European Investment Fund’s ENISA programme provides funding and support for innovative start‑ups. France’s Ministry of Economy offers similar backing, encouraging foreign entrepreneurs to contribute to the local economy.

Nigerian firms such as O&J Capital, iworld and Mirsatori have begun to leverage these programmes to assist local professionals. The collaboration was announced during an engagement with the business community in Lagos, with the aim of reducing the traditional barriers to migration and encouraging investment that benefits both Nigeria and the host countries.

Why it matters

The partnership offers Nigerian entrepreneurs a structured, legal pathway to enter the EU market, potentially reducing the risk of informal migration and the associated challenges. By focusing on sectors such as agriculture, IT, construction and logistics, the programme targets industries where Nigerian expertise can be valuable abroad.

The initiative also aligns with the EU’s goal of attracting innovative start‑ups and skilled entrepreneurs. For Nigerian professionals, the programme provides access to funding, legal support and a network of co‑founders, which can help overcome trust and guarantee issues that often deter overseas expansion.

What happens next

The firms plan to roll out the programme in the coming months, with detailed business proposals and immigration support tailored to each entrepreneur’s sector. While the sources do not specify exact dates for the first cohort, the collaboration is expected to launch shortly after the announcement.

The partnership is a response to growing interest among Nigerian professionals in global opportunities and reflects a broader trend of structured entrepreneurial migration pathways within the EU.
