National Orientation Agency urges voters to collect PVCs The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on Nigerians to obtain their permanent voter cards (PVCs) in time for the 2027 elections. Akwa Ibom State’s NOA director, Mr Mkpoutom Mkpoutom, spoke to residents in Mkpat Enin local government, stressing that the polls will be credible, free and fair once the cards are in hand. He warned that fear, doubt or misinformation should not deter citizens from exercising their civic duty.
Mkpoutom also demonstrated the correct voting procedure and urged voters to follow electoral guidelines to ensure a smooth process. He appealed for peace and order before, during and after the elections, cautioning against violence, intimidation and hate speech.
INEC’s PVC distribution schedule The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun distributing PVCs nationwide, with the first collection centres opening on 9 October. In Lagos State, 245 registration areas are serving as collection points across 20 local government areas.
Professor Ayobami Salami, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Lagos, explained that PVCs are currently available for those who registered between 25 August and 10 December 2025, as well as for earlier registrants who have not yet collected their cards. However, PVCs for people who registered between 5 January and 26 July 2026 are still pending.
Salami said the commission will announce collection dates for the affected registrants through official communication channels. He urged eligible voters to collect any available PVCs promptly, as the cards are essential for accreditation on Election Day.
QR code initiative and voter verification To assist voters in locating collection centres, INEC Lagos has introduced a QR code system. The commission also launched a display of the Register of Voters on 9 October, which will run until 15 October, allowing voters to verify their details.
Lagos remains a key electoral hub, with 7 488 633 registered voters – the highest number in the country – and 13 325 polling units.
Implications for the 2027 elections The combination of NOA’s reassurance and INEC’s logistical updates aims to increase voter participation and confidence in the electoral process. While the distribution of PVCs is progressing, the delay for 2026 registrants highlights the need for timely communication and follow‑up from the commission.
Both agencies are working to ensure that every vote counts and that the upcoming elections are conducted in a peaceful, orderly manner.
