Uchenna Ugwu, state party chairman Dr Martin Chukwunweike, and Secretary to the State Government Prof Chidiebere Onyia. The update primarily involved the addition of new members to the council’s membership cadre and routine housekeeping.
Background
The APC’s Campaign Council in Enugu functions as the organisational hub for the party’s electoral strategy in the state. The organizational framework features an Advisory Council composed of high-ranking political personalities, including former Senate President Ken Nnamani, former Anambra governor Senator Jim Nwobodo, retired Rear Admiral Allison Madueke, former Minister of Power Prof Barth Nnaji, and former Minister of Information and 2023 APGA governorship candidate Frank Nweke Jr., business magnate Prince Arthur Eze, Senator Chuka Utazi and several former deputy governors. These advisers provide strategic guidance while the directorates manage specific campaign functions.
The council’s formation and periodic updates are part of the APC’s broader preparation for the 2027 elections, where incumbent President Bola Tinubu seeks re‑election. Similar campaign structures have been inaugurated in other states, such as Ekiti and Ondo, where governors have launched presidential campaign councils to mobilise grassroots support.
Why it matters
The refreshed council signals the APC’s intent to consolidate support in Enugu, a state that will contribute a significant number of votes to the national tally. By incorporating additional stakeholders, the party aims to broaden its outreach and strengthen coordination across the 51 directorates. Retaining the existing leadership ensures continuity in strategy while the new members are expected to enhance operational capacity.
Stakeholders, including party officials and local political actors, have expressed optimism that the expanded council will help the APC achieve a "landslide victory" in 2027. The inclusion of high‑profile advisers underscores the party’s reliance on experienced figures to guide campaign decisions and voter mobilisation efforts.
What happens next
The updated council will commence its activities immediately, focusing on voter registration drives, grassroots mobilisation and coordination of campaign events across Enugu State. Party officials indicated that the council will work closely with the national APC structure to align state‑level initiatives with the broader presidential re‑election campaign. No further dates for subsequent meetings or additional revisions were disclosed in the release.
