ADC postpones Sokoto campaign launch
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced that the flag‑off of its presidential campaign in Sokoto State will no longer take place on Saturday, 31 October 2026, but will be held on Wednesday, 4 November 2026. The decision was made by the ADC Campaign Council in Sokoto State and communicated on Wednesday by its Director‑General, Hon. Bello Aliyu Goronyo.
In a statement issued that day, Goronyo clarified that the delay was meant to tackle planning and coordination problems that might jeopardise the event’s success. He also conveyed his apologies for any inconvenience and thanked party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and the public for their understanding and ongoing support.
The campaign council urged everyone involved to acknowledge the new date and expressed its enthusiasm for welcoming party leaders, supporters and other stakeholders at the rescheduled event.
Background
The ADC is a political party operating in Nigeria that has been organising a presidential campaign across several states. The party’s campaign activities in Sokoto State were scheduled to begin with a flag‑off ceremony on 31 October 2026. However, internal assessments revealed that certain logistical and coordination aspects required further refinement.
Hon. Bello Aliyu Goronyo, who heads the ADC Campaign Council in Sokoto State, is responsible for overseeing the party’s campaign operations in the region. His announcement reflects the party’s attempt to ensure that the campaign launch is conducted smoothly and effectively.
Why it matters
The postponement of the campaign launch may affect the party’s timetable for mobilising supporters and coordinating campaign activities in the state. The change also signals the ADC’s willingness to prioritise organisational readiness over sticking to a fixed schedule.
Supporters and stakeholders who had planned to attend the original event on 31 October will need to adjust their plans to the new date of 4 November. The party’s statement emphasised that the decision was made to avoid potential disruptions and to guarantee a successful event.
What happens next
The ADC Campaign Council in Sokoto State has issued a directive for all involved parties to acknowledge the new launch date. No further dates have been announced, and the party has not indicated any additional changes to its campaign timetable. The council remains open to welcoming party leaders, supporters and other stakeholders at the rescheduled event on 4 November 2026.
