Uganda denies active Ebola cases The Ugandan Ministry of Health announced that, as of the statement, there are no confirmed active Ebola cases in the country. The declaration came after Nigeria confirmed a case in a woman who had travelled to the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for business and later transited Uganda in early October.

Investigation of the Nigerian case According to the ministry, the woman did not show symptoms while passing through Uganda but developed them after arriving in Nigeria. Ugandan officials emphasised that the infection could not be assumed to have originated in Uganda. Investigations are ongoing to determine where she was exposed to the virus.

Strengthening entry controls The ministry said it would work with other government agencies to reinforce screening and public‑health measures at Uganda’s points of entry. While humanitarian and diplomatic movements will continue to be accommodated, additional safeguards will be introduced to protect public health.

Public guidance Officials urged Ugandans to remain calm, vigilant and to observe basic hygiene practices, such as regular handwashing and the use of hand sanitiser. The ministry promised to keep the public updated through official communication channels as the investigation progressed.

Information gaps The Ugandan health ministry noted that the Nigerian government had not yet supplied detailed information about the woman’s travel itinerary or clinical history. Such details would help determine whether contact tracing is required.

Context The statement was issued on a Tuesday, following reports from Nigerian authorities that a woman tested positive for Ebola in Abuja. Uganda’s response underscores the country’s commitment to monitoring potential cross‑border disease transmission while reassuring the public that no cases have been confirmed locally.

Conclusion With no confirmed Ebola cases in Uganda, the ministry’s focus remains on investigation, strengthening entry controls and maintaining public calm. The situation is being monitored closely, and further updates will be released as more information becomes available.
