Concerned residents of Sokoto State have issued a formal challenge to Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), demanding that he unveil a clear and achievable development agenda. Speaking through Ibrahim Umar Kware, Aminu Hali Tambuwal, and Bello Arzika Dandange, the collective maintained that voters are entitled to substantive proposals rather than the partisan attacks typical of those campaigning for their support. They urged Dan’iya to move beyond criticizing the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu and instead present credible alternatives and concrete solutions to the state’s challenges ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Background

The residents noted that since his emergence as the ADC candidate, Dan’iya has consistently criticized the policies and programmes of the present administration without providing a comprehensive policy document detailing his proposed changes. The group contended that managing a state with a demographic exceeding five million people demands extensive planning, a defined strategic outlook, and a robust grasp of public administration, which must include feasible financing methods, execution schedules, and quantifiable success metrics.

Within their declaration, the collective advised Dan’iya to consider his earlier service as Deputy Governor during the administration of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. They cautioned him against the shortcomings of his political mentor, accusing Tambuwal of assuming office without adequate preparation. The citizens pointed out that although the current government must be scrutinized, the opposition shares a duty to prove greater competence and provide superior options, rather than depending exclusively on negative commentary to influence the electorate.

Why it matters

The locals identified particular sectors where they perceive advancement under the present regime, recognizing Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s efforts in security logistics, road building and repair, housing, and the renewal of primary healthcare services. They observed that supplying functional cars, bikes, and additional gear to law enforcement bodies has improved reaction times in certain regions of the state, even though they conceded that security threats persist and demand ongoing intervention.

The group stressed that the 2027 election should be defined by competing ideas and concrete solutions rather than fault-finding. They explicitly demanded that Dan’iya release public strategies for bolstering safety in at-risk areas, aiding agricultural workers and small enterprises, reducing joblessness among the young, drawing in private capital, and enhancing public services throughout the state’s 23 local government areas. The inhabitants maintained that Sokoto requires a well-prepared leader equipped with a distinct strategy to handle these complex challenges successfully.

What happens next

The residents have called on Dan’iya to publicly present his specific plans for the aforementioned sectors. They expect the ADC candidate to provide workable alternatives to the current government's policies, detailing how he intends to deliver on his promises and manage the state's resources. The group’s statement serves as a public demand for transparency and strategic clarity from the opposition candidate as the 2027 election approaches.
