The Ogun State Police Command announced on 18 October 2026 that a 56‑year‑old man, identified as Madarikan Emehinola, has been arrested in connection with a suspected arson that caused the death of his wife, Igbagbo Erobe, aged 40. The incident occurred in the Igbo‑Edu community of Ogun Waterside Local Government Area and was first reported to the Abigi Divisional Police Headquarters.

According to a statement released by the police public‑relations officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, information was received that a house had been set ablaze, trapping the victim inside. Police operatives responded promptly, recovered the body and placed the suspect in custody. The deceased’s remains have been transferred to a mortuary for a post‑mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.

The command indicated that the case is being prepared for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, where a more detailed inquiry will be conducted. Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni assured the public that the investigation will be carried out diligently and professionally, in line with legal requirements. He also reiterated the police command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and to giving serious criminal allegations appropriate investigative attention.

While the arrest has been confirmed, officials stressed that custody does not equate to guilt and that the circumstances surrounding the fire remain under investigation. The police have urged members of the community to report any suspicious activity promptly and to provide credible information that could aid crime prevention and ongoing investigations.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence and violent crime in the region, prompting law‑enforcement agencies to emphasise swift response and thorough follow‑up. No further details about potential motives or additional suspects have been released at this stage, and the investigation is expected to continue as forensic results become available.
