The Isoko South Local Government Area town of Oleh served as the venue where the Delta State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) formally launched its 2027 electoral bid on 5 November 2026. The rally was attended by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his wife Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori and other senior party officials. Speakers called for massive voter support for President Bola Tinubu and all APC candidates in the upcoming elections.

Governor Oborevwori explained that the state’s decision to align with the APC resulted from extensive consultations with stakeholders and was intended to synchronise Delta’s development agenda with the federal government. He praised President Tinubu’s economic reforms, noting that higher revenue allocations had boosted the capacity of state and local governments to implement projects and meet financial obligations.

During the event, the governor highlighted several achievements of his administration. He revealed that 17,500 Delta students had received support from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and urged additional learners to submit their applications. He also reported that the State Executive Council had approved the construction of State Police Divisional Headquarters in all 25 local government areas, anticipating the creation of a state police force. Infrastructure, education and healthcare improvements were cited as further successes.

At a subsequent rally in Ozoro, Governor Oborevwori appealed to the Isoko people to support his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, by voting for the APC. Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, an Isoko North native, urged residents to view voting as a powerful tool of political expression, urging them to “use it to vote for APC.”

Background

The APC’s presence in Delta State follows Governor Oborevwori’s recent political realignment, which he said was the result of broad stakeholder engagement. The move aligns the state with President Tinubu’s federal administration, which has pursued economic reforms and increased revenue sharing with states. The Nigerian Education Loan Fund, a federal programme, has been a focal point of the governor’s education agenda, with the reported 17,500 beneficiaries reflecting the state’s participation.

The plan to build State Police Divisional Headquarters in each of Delta’s 25 local government areas forms part of a broader proposal to establish a state police force, a long‑standing demand among some regional groups seeking greater security autonomy.

Why it matters

The campaign launch signals the APC’s intent to consolidate support in the Niger Delta ahead of the 2027 general elections. By linking state development projects, education loans and security initiatives to the federal administration, the party aims to persuade voters that alignment with President Tinubu will bring continued benefits. The emphasis on student loans targets a youthful electorate, while the promise of new police headquarters addresses security concerns in the region.

Support from influential local figures such as Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori may sway community voting patterns, especially in Isoko communities that hold significant electoral weight in Delta State. The rally’s call for “massive votes” underscores the competitive nature of the upcoming elections, where the APC seeks to retain or expand its representation at both state and national levels.

What happens next

The APC’s campaign will continue across Delta State, with further rallies planned in other local government areas, including the follow‑up event in Ozoro. The party aims to maintain momentum through grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 election timetable, which is expected to culminate in national voting later in the year. Pending decisions include the final approval and funding for the State Police Divisional Headquarters and the ongoing disbursement of NELFUND loans to eligible students.
