Record‑breaking investor demand Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals announced that its ongoing IPO has received subscription orders from more than 90 countries worldwide, with investors from 51 of Africa’s 54 nations taking part. The breadth of participation has been described as Africa’s first truly pan‑African public offering and has already set new benchmarks on the Nigerian capital market, becoming the largest offering on its opening day and surpassing the previous continental record within ten days.
Sources of demand The company said the surge in interest stems from a mix of retail investors, pension funds, institutional investors, asset managers and fintech platforms. Analysts note that the strong demand reflects growing confidence in African‑led industrial projects and a desire among African investors to own strategic assets on the continent.
Financial performance fuels optimism For the nine‑month period ending 30 September 2026, Dangote Refinery reported revenue of US$22.5 billion and a net profit of US$4.7 billion, a dramatic turnaround from a US$117.2 million loss in the same period a year earlier. Revenue rose 144 percent from US$9.2 billion in 2025, while EBITDA jumped to US$5.5 billion from US$627.6 million, an almost nine‑fold increase. Operating cash flow expanded more than ten‑fold to US$3.68 billion, moving the company from a net debt position of US$1.73 billion in September 2025 to a net cash balance of US$651 million by September 2026.
Revised valuation by research house Renaissance Capital Africa, an investment‑research firm, raised its valuation of Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals to N700.41 per share, representing a potential 33.4 percent upside over the IPO price of N525 per share. The firm attributed the upward revision to stronger refining margins and better‑than‑expected operational results in the first nine months of 2026.
Outlook and caveats While the revised share‑price target signals confidence in the refinery’s earnings trajectory, analysts caution that the projected upside depends on the sustainability of refining margins, ongoing operational performance and broader market conditions. Nonetheless, the combination of robust financial results and unprecedented investor participation underscores the refinery’s growing role in both domestic and international petroleum markets.
Significance for African capital markets The scale of the offering is being hailed as a defining moment for Africa’s capital markets, illustrating an increasing appetite for ownership of large‑scale industrial assets and a potential catalyst for deeper integration of African financial systems.
