In a meeting held in Azerbaijan on 15 October, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi addressed Israeli President Isaac Herzog with a clear message regarding the West Bank. Beijing asked Israel to stop and reverse what it described as the forced establishment of settlements in the occupied territory.

China has long framed the Palestinian question as the most significant historical injustice of the current century. In the conversation, Wang reiterated that stance, stressing that any progress in the region must be rooted in peace and reconciliation. The Chinese government sees these principles as the cornerstone of its broader Middle East policy.

The minister also outlined China’s preferred framework for resolving the conflict. A two‑state solution is presented as the correct path forward, with immediate attention directed toward ensuring full access to the Gaza Strip. This step is intended to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe from escalating further.

Beyond the settlement issue, Beijing expressed a willingness to collaborate with the international community. The goal, according to the statement issued by the foreign ministry, is to encourage all parties to return to dialogue and consultation as soon as possible, aiming for a political settlement that addresses the underlying tensions.

China’s position is consistent with its historical support for the Palestinian cause. The country also maintains close ties with Iran, which is a key regional player and Israel’s main adversary. These relationships underscore Beijing’s interest in promoting stability across the Middle East.

The statement reflects a broader diplomatic effort by China to position itself as a mediator in the Israeli‑Palestinian dispute, while also signalling its readiness to engage with multiple stakeholders to foster a lasting resolution.
